Gruver’s Bakery was founded in 1936 by Stewart Gruver in a small garage on Gas Alley in York, Pennsylvania. The bakery relocated to 132 North Newberry St. in the late 1930’s where it remained in operation until October of 2000. Mr. Gruver operated the business until 1962 when he sold it to his nephew, who operated it until 1990. During this time the bakery produced a wide assortment of baked goods that were sold at the North Newberry St. location and at small grocery stores located throughout Central Pennsylvania. Starting in the early 1960’s the bakery began selling their product at local farm markets. In the late 1960’s the North Newberry St. location closed its retail store, but the baking operations remained on site until it’s relocation to Dallastown in 2000. During the sixties and seventies the bakery continued to thrive with over 7 full-time delivery vans supplying grocery stores and small retailers throughout the area.
Larry and Cindy Golden bought the business in 1997 and relocated to 64 East Main St., Dallastown in 2000. We still use some of the original recipes that date back to 1930’s. Over the last year we have reconfigured our bakery to specialize in Decorated Specialty Cakes for Any Occasion.
We offer FREE DELIVERY to many zip codes in York County. Please check our zip code chart located on the order page of each product. FREE DELIVERY of any product requires a delivery address, a contact phone number and delivery time. If for any reason the delivery time or location needs to be changed, we must be notified prior to your product leaving the bakery. One attempt will be made to deliver. If the product cannot be delivered by fault of the customer, it will be returned to the bakery. In this case, no money will be refunded and it will be the responsibility of the customer to arrange for pick up. We offer FREE DELIVERY to your home, school or office. We will not be held responsible for any damage that may occur after your product has been signed for and delivered.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. Visa and MasterCard debit cards are also accepted. All orders processed through the website must be paid in full at time of order. Payment in full is required before any deliveries can be made. Business credit accounts can be set up by contacting the bakery at 717-417-3442. Cash or check can be used for pickup of products at the Dallastown location. Phone orders will still require payment at time of order. If you wish to use a check for phone orders, we require receipt of check five days prior to delivery. There is a $45.00 return check fee.
If for some reason you’re unsatisfied with the cake that was delivered to you please contact the bakery immediately. We will work to resolve your case on an individual basis. Under no circumstances is a refund given in some cases we will offer a replacement cake or a discount on a future cake. It is Gruvers Bakery’s goal that everyone is 100% satisfied with their cake.
All of our cakes are hand-made and hand-decorated. We will make every effort to match the pictures shown on our web site, but as with any handmade item there will be variations between the picture and the actual cake. The colors used on all the cakes are mixed by hand, with this there will also be some color shade variations. Our Photo Cake images are very high quality. The higher the quality of the picture you send us, the higher the quality the image will be when printed for application.
If you are allergic to peanuts, fruit, dairy products, etc., please contact us for list of ingredients before consuming any of our products. Although we clean and sanitize all equipment and utensils between the mixing of each batter and icing, cross contamination is still possible. Your health and safety are most important to us, therefore, we recommend that if you are in doubt, do not consume any of our products.
